The International Space Stations are large space docks in orbit around Earth. The first one ever to be launched were the ISS-I, launched 20 November 1998. Its original mission was extended, when NASA was granted more funding in 2049. ISS-I was then reconfigured in 2090 to be able to speed up construction of the following space stations.
In 2102, the first space dock was constructed - the ISS-III. This breakthrough made ship assembly less costly and more effective than assembling them in the factories on Earth. The boosters earlier used to launch the ships to space were often as expensive to build as one third the ship it propelled.
The second breakthrough was in 2181, when the ISS-IV was constructed. It helped reducing time and resources when assembling fleets. It was larger than ISS-III, and could assemble Class 1 Resource Ships (max. 5 km long). Later in 2189, ISS-IV helped upgrading the ISS-II to be able to assemble Frigate class ships. ISS-I was still in use, but only for research and education purposes, as it was too small to be able to upgrade to a space dock.
Further speeding up assembly, ISS-V was launched in 2192. It was the same structure as ISS-IV, able to assemble Class 1 Resource Ships.

Info page - Hull classification symbol
The hull classification symbols identifies ships by type and ships within a type. Each class of ships get its own number, to identify the type and any sub-class it may be part of. This hull number is used to distinguish between the exact ship class a ship belongs to, other than the ship number and name. Most symbols are derived from older Earth navy designation symbols.
Some classes are more specialized than others, but are usually included in existing types. Generally, a new class receive a designation of its main role. A frigate armed with guided missiles may fall into FFH instead of FFG, if it is considered to be more heavily armored than

Captain's log, January 15, 2351
Not much is different today. On this day it's been 16 years since we departed from Earth. Every day is routine by now.
We still haven't seen any signs of life out here in the vast space.
We travel in these large vessels made for war, but the weapons are cold, as they have been for 16 years.
What did we expect to find out here, bringing all of this? I, for one, am grateful that we don't have to use them.

Oh, I almost forgot. Tomorrow one of our scouting parties are scheduled to meet up with the main fleet.

Soon 1000 pageviews!
Whoo! Soon 1000 page views and over 2700 views of my models, since the beginning of this year. This may not be much, but it's a lot for me! This community is way more active than 3D warehouse, where my models were previously uploaded to (exclusively).
I thank you all! You are all awesome!
